about reena

A Front-End Developer, with 10 years experience in Digital, spanning across Website Production, Content Migrations, SEO and CMS systems. Strong Development, UX, Design, Analytics and Agile. I decided to join General Assembly’s Web Development Immersive - Full Stack Development programmer, in January 2018, as I knew this course would give me the skills and tools I’d need to change career, into Front-End Development.

I've always had a personal interesting in coding. I love building websites and apps. However, my career naturally gravitated towards the commercial side of website management. And so enrolled on the course, as I wanted to spend the rest of my life "doing what I love". You can find out below which Full-Stack skills I've gained and see the projects I've produced...

expedia group - destination dreamers
(winning hackathon app)

tech: FileStack API, Google API, Remove Background API, JavaScript, CSS

An influential member of Expedia Group’s internal hackathon winning team, where we used FileStack, Google and Remove Background API’s, to create a travel app, which inspires users to travel and create/share, fun viral content

Users can upload a selfie and pick a destination. And then the app returns an image of the user, blended into the destination image. The image can also be emailed and shared via Social Media

Senior management were so impressed with the app, it is now being used at company conferences aid candidate attraction.

project 4: hit me up

tech: MERN stack - MongoDB, Express.js, ReactJS, Node.js, SASS/SCSS, Bulma, Google APIs, Zomato API, JWT token, FileStack API.

For my final project at General Assembly, I built an app in React, which users can use, to locate other travellers nearby when travelling abroad. The app stores a users location once logged in and other traveller's locations, will then be dropped onto a Google Map on the logged in users Hub Page.

The logged in user can then message visible travellers directly, or search for travellers, using a filter function, (either by username or travel type - eg 'Solo').

Secondary features include timestamps, for when travellers last logged in. As well as seeing travel related content/restaurants nearby, based on geolocation lat/lng.

Built with mobile first in mind.

project 3: crave

tech: MEAN stack - MongoDB, Express.js, AngularJS, Node.js, Google APIs (Places, Servce, Directions), Bulma

Crave App was the result of working on a group project with 2 other classmates. The function of the app is simple - the app is used, when users are too drunk or hungover, to find any nourishment on their way home from a night out!

My role was to develop the Google Maps geolocation function, alternative address search fields, selecting choice of transport, (walking or driving), mapping the origin to destination and allowing users plot results by filter. Filters were displayed as '4 emotional states' - "Hammered" (kebabs), "Hangry (fastfood)", "Hungover (cafes)" and "Hardworking (chinese)". I also developed in step by step directions to be displayed, underneath the plotted route map.

Built with mobile first in mind.

project 2: popup london

tech: Express.js, MongoDB, Node.js, Bcrypt, Flash Messages, Google Maps API, FileStack API

Popup London was built using EJS templating, Node.Js and MongoDB as main technologies. It's a social network, where users can register/log in, to create new popup listings happening around the capital. As logged in users, secondary features include rating and reviewing events, commenting on events and deleting your own events.

Any events added to the database, are then displayed, shown and editable, using REST routing. Users can also filter events based on type, such as 'Art'. And other APIs used included Google Maps and FileStack APIs.

project 1: sci-fi movie quiz

tech: Javascript, jQuery, Bulma

My first project at General Assembly, where I was required to build a game using JavaScript fundamentals I had learned over the last two weeks. I decided to pick a theme personal to me - sci-fi movies! Built using vanilla JavaScript and jQuery, the user is presented with a jumbled array of images and has to guess as many movies as possible within 60 seconds.

The game also incoporates sound clips, which the user and replay for hints in each around. And a score boards, which increments by 1 point, every time the user guesses correctly.
